Markus Zechner, PhD
Markus leads Terra AI’s reservoirs division, driving product strategy and business development. Drawing on more than two decades of experience across academia and industry, he combines AI and reservoir modeling to help energy companies understand subsurface uncertainty and make better decisions throughout a project’s lifecycle. At OMV, Markus worked as a reservoir engineer and later advised senior leadership, with experience spanning oil and gas development, enhanced oil recovery, carbon storage, geothermal energy, and fractured reservoirs. As an Adjunct Professor at Stanford University, he develops AI-driven decision-support tools for large-scale geothermal and carbon-storage projects. He holds a PhD in Earth Sciences from Stanford and an MS in Petroleum Engineering from Montanuniversität Leoben and the Colorado School of Mines. Outside of work, Markus enjoys cooking and spending time outdoors with his family, especially hiking and exploring nature with his four kids.
